Publishers Text

Taking readers on a tour through the vineyards inland from Bordeaux, this book presents a history of wine development and production in each area, from Roman times to the present, thereby reconstructing the customs and way of life of this region of France. There are also sections with tips on wine-tasting, details of the different varieties grown, and advice on the food which best complements the wines. Paul and Jeanne Strang bought a house in south-west France in the 1960s, and have been researching the region's cooking and its wines ever since. The book is a companion volume to Jeanne Strang's "Goose Fat and Garlic".
