Wheat berry and wild mushroom stew from Slow Cooker Revolution, Volume 2: The Easy-Prep Edition: 200 All-New, Ground-Breaking Recipes by America's Test Kitchen Editors

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

I was really hoping to love this as we are big fans of mushrooms and wheatberries are something we quite like in salads. Unfortunately this one was a bust for us. The quantity of mushrooms and oil for the initial microwaving must be off. It is 1 tb of oil for 2lbs of sliced mushrooms so basically nothing. The mushrooms just wilted a bit in the microwave and didn't really add much flavour as there was no browning. The ATK technique of blooming aromatics and spices in the microwave to get the slow cooking process under way is a good one, but it doesn't work with mushrooms, at least not in this quantity. I went for high for the longer time suggested and the wheatberries were overcooked. They had absorbed too much liquid. Might be better to go shorter but even if the farro was better cooked it would still be pretty tasteless. Looking back at the recipe now I should have known there was insufficient seasoning with what was in the ingredient list, but I was banking on the mushrooms.
