My husband and I really like the taste of this chili. I swapped out the precooked pulled chicken for 1 lb of ground Turkey breast that I cooked in step 1 along with the onions and jalapeños. I also did not have the roasted red pepper, but they weren’t missed. Finally, I didn’t have the listed beans so used black beans and chick peas. Still very good. I did have all the other ingredients and used a BBQ sauce from a neighborhood bbq joint that sells its very good sauce. I would suggest using your favorite sauce here — but nothing sweet. Sweet won’t work with the smoked paprika. Really great taste! Will make again!

Husband and I really liked this chili. I used homemade chicken broth from the poached chicken. I shredded my chicken in large chunks which we both prefer. I made a couple small tweaks: instead of reserving 3 ounces each of kidney and cannellini beans, I used the entire 15 ounce cans of both. I drained the diced tomatoes. Directions didn’t indicate whether to do that. With three cups of broth, this recipe makes a more soup- like chili. Husband loved it that way; I prefer mine a bit more chunky with less liquid. If I were making this for just me I’d reduce the broth to 2 cups, but since my husband likes it as is, I’ll just spoon up a serving with less liquid for me. Spices and bbq flavors were perfect for our taste buds- spicy but not overly so. Served with shredded sharp cheddar cheese and a dab of sour cream. The BBq sauce is an interesting take on traditional chili.Update: chili is even better next day- thicker and richer. Yum! If time allows, make a day ahead of serving time.
