Gluten-free apple and blackberry pie from Simply Nigella: Feel Good Food (page 302) by Nigella Lawson

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

Finally, I've found a gluten free pastry which doesn't contain eggs and actually works! I didn't have brambles but actually preferred the apples on their own with the cinnamon. I subbed plant based Greek yogurt for the sour cream (dairy intolerance) but otherwise made as written. This is such a straightforward recipe which is unusual for gluten free. I find Nigella's gluten free recipes work for me and I really appreciate that as a "main stream" cookery writer she takes the time to understand what works and gives us good reliable recipes. Thank you Nigella, my first apple pie in 5 years and it was so good!

I had no blackberries (someone else snaffled them) but I still used the basis of the recipe since I fall into the gluten free pastry avoider category. As described it is definitely like 'normal' pastry. I subbed milk kefir for the sour cream and made the mistake of adding a bit more water when I thought it was too dry. I will persevere next time as I will use this recipe again. When I pinched a piece of the pastry which had come away from the pie it did taste a bit salty, but I didn't pick it up as a whole when eating the pie (with double cream!).
