    As written this looked like it was going to be hugely bland, and lacking the aromatics and vegetables I would expect in a good shepherd's pie. So I added some onion, carrots, parsley and peas to saute in the beef drippings along with the mushrooms. Also added seasoning along each step of the way, and I think it helped tremendously. Still very mild flavored - next time I might try adding some herbs like sage or rosemary.
