    Cook potatoes. Drain and set aside. Heat oil and add the chopped bacon or bits and sauté til crisp. Fry the onions til soft. Add the garlic, pour in the cider and bubble until almost evaporated . Remove the bacon and garlic and onions. Add more oil and fry gently the pots until golden, layer finishing with the cheese and put in hot oven
