    Per online comment suggestions, I browned the sausage first, halving the links for easier portioning (I just had 5). I used 3 bell peppers and no celery and simmered the sauce 30 min rather than 40 - really 15 min would probably be fine. The seasoning wasn't super smoky, but we liked it, and it's certainly easy to adapt to your taste. I used closer to 1/2 cup breadcrumbs. This was a good, easy dinner served with bread to mop up the sauce.
