Can substitute haddock fillets for cod fillets, water for beer, oil for lard, and lard or sunflower oil for beef drippings.

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Accompaniments: Tartare sauce; Pease pottage

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Fish and chips are delicious, but frying in batches means this is quite time consuming. Also, I found the batter flaked off a bit in the hot oil, creating gaps of naked fish.
