A better garlic bread (caramelized garlic on toast with anchovies) from Nothing Fancy: Unfussy Food for Having People Over (page 73) by Alison Roman

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Recipe doesn't say, but I finely chopped the anchovies because it didn't seem like they'd break apart otherwise & resemble the photo. Made the full recipe, makes a good amount for 6 ciabatta, halved = 12 pieces of bread. I hated how this tasted... Husband absolutely loved it. I'm not a fan of fish, but will eat things like beer-battered fish tacos loaded with toppings that covers most of the fishiness... to me this bread tasted VERY strongly of anchovies. Husband loves fish, & said this garlic bread didn't taste fishy at all to him, just garlicky & flavorful. So I guess fishy flavor is like cilantro & some people it tastes stronger & gross? Minus the anchovies it would be a so-so garlic bread... I prefer it with herbs and/or cheese, but Husband says this is now his favorite. So I suppose I'll make another batch of this someday as a treat for Husband but never again for me.

We enjoyed this. Made a half batch, which was more than enough for a half a baguette.

This is now my go-to garlic bread recipe (which, admittedly, isn’t something I make often). It’s a delicious, salty, garlicky umami punch of flavor. The first time we made it, it was better as the baguette was better and absorbed the liquid more easily.
