Requires at least 4 hours to prepare. Can substitute canola oil for grapeseed oil, whole star anise for anise seeds, Thai chiles for jalapeño chiles, apple cider vinegar for rice wine vinegar, chicken broth for beef broth, brown sugar or honey for sorghum syrup, and cooked polenta or mashed potatoes for cooked rice.
