Saucy sesame-ginger meatballs from Once Upon a Chef: Weekend/Weeknight: 70 Quick-Fix Weeknight Dinners + 30 Luscious Weekend Recipes (page 119) by Jennifer Segal

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Can substitute chile and garlic sauce for sambal oelek.

These are easy and my kids actually enjoy making the meatballs. Great for a meal prep type thing where you can make a fair amount and then eat at more than one meal.

My family really enjoyed this recipe and dinner. The sauce was a little spicy for one of my boys so I served it on the side for him.

This was delicious-a surprise given its simplicity. Great kick from sambal oolek and sweetness from brown sugar and ketchup is perfect balance. And it freezes so well!!

A quick addendum to my original comment (because I just remembered)...the sauce recipe calls for 1/2 cup (80 mL) of water and NO - 80 mL is NOT = 1/2 cup :( I used the 1/2 cup (assuming the metric conversion was the actual mistake) and it was fine but I always wonder how those errors slip through the editing process??

This was scaled back to 1/2 and the 2 of us devoured it. I used a mix of roughly 2:1 ground beef & "medium heat" Italian sausage meat and made the sauce exactly as written. As usual, I wanted a complete dinner bowl and so I added stir fried red onion, sweet peppers & broccoli as well as some Asian style noodles (instead of serving over rice). With everything prepped early in the day, this was easy to put together at dinner, The sambal oelek adds a perfect kick to the flavourful sauce and as I said - we loved it.
