    Can substitute all-purpose flour for white whole wheat flour, and baking soda mixed with baking powder for instant yeast.

    Made these with all-purpose flour. Increased the cinnamon in the filling to 1-1/2 tsp. The dough was very soft which made it a little difficult to handle and twist and shape the knots. But, as the recipe says,it doesn't have to be perfect. The crunch layer leaked a lot of butter in the baking and scooping it back on top of the knots was impossible. However, the topping had a beautiful crunch, so that didn't matter. Didn't have cream cheese for the glaze, so used some cream and omitted the water. Next time I'll skip the step of trying to scoop melted topping back on as it really isn't necessary. And there will be a next time as my husband loves these!
