Aztec hot chocolate pudding from The Essential New York Times Cookbook: Tenth Anniversary Edition: The Recipes of Record (page 907) by Amanda Hesser

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

Excellent. I made this on a whim after spotting it in the book and realizing I had all the ingredients on hand. It comes together in just minutes. Wasn't sure what to make of it when it came out of the oven. Friends, it's not pretty. The editor even notes in the book that it "looks like tar." But what it lacks in beauty it makes up for in taste. Rich, molten, with warmth from the spices (I used ancho chile powder) and depth from the rum. Leftovers were stodgy the next day but no less enjoyable to eat. Very little work for a very nice payoff--I'll be adding this one to regular rotation.
