French onion muffins from Savory Baking: Recipes for Breakfast, Dinner, and Everything in Between (page 24) by Erin Jeanne McDowell

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Don’t overbake. Made exactly as directed. Only used half of topping, there was way too much to fit in the pans. Great flavor, best when fresh out of the oven

I liked these but nobody else in the house seemed to love them. However, I am the French onion obsessed and they are not. Feedback was that they were bland. Personally I loved the topping. Recipe made 16, not 12. They were best fresh out of the oven. Not hard to make but time consuming. Gruyère is so pricey that I’d only recommend making if you can find it on sale.
