A pilaf of asparagus, broad beans, and mint from Tender: A Cook and His Vegetable Patch (page 32) by Nigel Slater

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

I've been on a bland diet for at least 24 hours (tummy wog), and wanted something with a little more flavour. I made this without butter, oil and yoghurt, and used peas for broad beans. It was delicious. Asparagus might not be the right choice for everyone in this situation, but it was ok for me. Used pippili for pepper, as it has excellent digestive properties. The dish uses gentle, warming spices. Much of the flavour of this dish is from the rice, so use a good quality rice - India Gate Classic Basmati is my favourite - aged, very long grain rice.

The flavours are subtle, but with veg from the garden this was delicious

We found this to be disappointing - a bit bland, nothing special. I prefer to turn to my Indian cookbooks for flavoured rice dishes.
