Double chocolate layer cake from Epicurious by Gourmet

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Out of the many (many many many) chocolate cake recipes I've tried over the years, this is one of my favorites. Like Frogcake says, excellent chocolate flavor and moistness - yum!! It's a biiiiig cake for a layer cake. I once tried baking the batter in an 8-inch round cake pan + a 9-inch square pan and while the batter technically fit in the pans, it was too much batter for them - the 9-inch square ended up sinking somewhat in the middle after leaving the oven.

Reminder to self - I haven’t made this for awhile. This is the most heavenly chocolate cake ever. Our guests loved it.

This is the cake I dream about most frequently. Have been making this one for many years now. Insanely chocolaty and moist, I have yet to find a better chocolate cake recipe. I highly recommend dividing the batter between three baking pans - way too much batter for two pans. It's a very high cake with three layers. But if you are feeding a crowd -well, this three layer cake easily serves twenty when all-dressed with ganache, vanilla ice cream and whipping cream. Sometimes I bake two layers and use the third layer quantity to make cupcakes. On other occasions, I freeze the third layer for a treat in months to come. The cake freezes very well for three months if well-wrapped.
