Slow-cooker black bean ragout from The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook: Recipes and Wisdom from an Obsessive Home Cook (page 137) by Deb Perelman

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

This is another favorite at our house. Not overly complicated, but lots of nice textures and flavors. The pickled red onions and cumin crema mixture really take it over the top.

One of my long time go to's. I think the sherry vinegar at the end really kicks it up. I use less water/stock than called for for a thicker texture.

Just made this for the first time, and it came out soupier and saltier than expected. Will definitely make again, because the overall flavor profile is good and slow-cooker black beans are a supremely practical recipe, but I will scale back the liquid and the salt next time.

I really liked this dish. I used it for one meal and then saved the extra beans to make beef and bean chili, beef and bean burritos, and veggie tacos.

I found this whole dish pretty bland.

Delicious flavors; we added additional cumin, oregano and paprika. Also added a diced jalapeno. Recipe is versatile and can be used in many ways. Husband added them to his morning eggs over easy with wheat toast. We also ate them with brown rice and diced avocado.

This is basically a recipe to cook black beans in a slow cooker - nothing too special. Next time I would double all the spices - this did not come out at all spicy. With some cooked rice, an easy meal that will cook without much effort. Prep time was only around 15 min.
