Today I got an email from EYB saying there was a new reply in one of the threads. It turned out to be a big nothing because the thread was "Sardine and chick-pea casserole," in which I don't remember ever registering the slightest interest. OK, maybe I looked at it briefly, once. But how does that count as subscribing?

You would need to select to watch a thread - it doesn't happen just because you viewed it. When viewing a Forum topic, in the green bar, on the right, you can see Options - when you click it one of the options is Watch this topic. You may have accidentally selected it without realizing.

No, Jane, I never clicked anything to subscribe to the thread about sardine and chickpea casserole. But the software thinks I'm subscribed anyway. And I don't see anything on the right side of the green bar.

ETA: I went back to the thread, saw the word Options in blue (hard to see against green), clicked it and nothing happened. Clicked it again and nothing happened. Long-pressed it and was given the option to copy the word. It is neither a link nor a button.

Clicked on the options too and nothing happened.  I pressed for a long time and nothing happened.

And now I'm supposed to be subscribed to the "bubbles and squeak" and "fun and unusual cookbooks" threads. I don't think I ever viewed the first one.

I just tried this on my laptop, and clicking on Options did bring up two choices: "Watch this topic", and "Print this topic". However, they didn't appear as a drop-down list underneath Options as I had expected; instead, they displayed above the green bar, just under Search the Forum. Clicking on "Watch this topic" produced a Notification box: "You will now be notified when new posts are made in this topic." Clicking Options again from the same topic changed the first choice to "Unwatch this topic."

Deborah, I just did what you did on my Samsung Galaxy S5, and I did not find an Unwatch option ANYWHERE on the page.

bittrette - not every feature of a website can be crammed into a phone screen. The link and watch/unwatch feature can only be seen when accessing the site on a tablet or computer.
