Same recipe appearing multiple times in search   Go to last post Go to last unread

A couple times I've noticed as I scan through pages of a search with several results that the same recipe appears multiple times. I will see the recipe, then I flip through a couple pages, and it shows up again. This will happen with several of the recipes. It seems to be making the searches unnecessarily long, and I'm not sure how to prevent this. The most recent example is when I search in cookbooks only, main dishes, chicken. Any suggestions what I'm doing in my search that is causing this or how to prevent it?

MarciK, it would be helpful if you could post a link to the search so we can analyze why you're seeing repeated instances of the same recipe. Are all the duplicate recipes from the same book with the same ISBN (which shouldn't be happening)? It's possible the identical or nearly identical recipe appears in multiple different cookbooks, or in multiple editions of the same cookbook that have been separately indexed in EYB.

I don’t know if this will help since I was nearly halfway into the search pages before I started realizing, but here is the search: https://www.eatyourbooks...en&book-recipes=true

I was searching my own books, which I have just one of on my bookshelf (except multiple Better Homes & Gardens from different years, but those I didn’t notice duplicated), so I’m not sure why it would pick up multiple ISBN numbers. There are some America’s Test Kitchen that have the same recipes in different books, but those I can identify also when it comes up in a 2 different cookbooks. There was one duplicated that I bookmarked as want to cook when I saw it the first time. When I saw it again, it was also bookmarked.

I could not replicate that issue using the filters you mentioned. And it is not something I have experienced before (if other members have had it happen, please chime in). The default sort order for recipe sort results is date indexed so you should see all the recipes from a book listed together - though they may muddle up with another book if it was being indexed at exactly the same time. Do you remember if you changed the sort order?

I believe I've seen this in the past too, where it seems that the recipe sort order is changing as I'm paging through results, and the same recipe that was on an earlier page is now at the end of the results. It's been a while though--so I can't provide any further details. But if it happens to me again, I'll report it in this thread.

I have seen the same recipe appear twice in a search, however the reason for that was because I had put the recipe in my personal recipes before a book had been indexed, and then later the book was indexed so it appeared again.

I couldn’t replicate it this time too. I think it could be an issue with the sort order changing, as mentioned above because I’ll see a bunch of recipes from a book grouped together, then the recipes from that book start showing up later. If it makes a difference, it seems to happen when I’m using the computer more so than my phone. If it happens again, I’ll try to send specifics.

Of course, sometimes there are multiple copies of same recipes (as in different editions of books)

I've had it happen to me too, while on my PC and searcing My Bookshelf. I don't know why this is, I just ignore it.
