I am trying to search my bookshelf for corned beef hash.  I get something like 23 recipes when I use "corned beef hash" but one of the recipes that show up is not in my bookshelf.  Why is that?

Rinshin, we'd need to know which specific recipe you're referring to, including the name of the book/magazine/blog in which it appears, so we can figure out why it wasn't in your search result.

It's this book that showed up in my bookshelf recipe search under corned beef hash.  I do not own this book.

Adventures in the Kitchen: 175 New Recipes from Spago, Chinois on Main, Postrio and Eureka by Wolfgang Puck

Rinshin - I had a similar issue with a magazine that I didn't own. BUT the magazine was actually listed in my bookshelf entries, although I had not knowingly entered it.... I deleted the magazine and that solkved teh proble.. perhaps the same has happened on your "my bookshelf", but I guess you've already checked your bookshelf list and proved it's not been inadvertently added to your shelf? I just looked at your bookshelf and "adventures in the Kitchen " is actually listed as one of your books! So maybe its gotten there inavertently: if you delete it the problem should resolve!

Yes, you are so right.  I was sure I did not have the book from seeing the cover of the book which shows Puck and his familiar chef garb.  I did not recognize the cover at all.  But, when I checked the book without the search of corned beef hash, the cover is now different and I recognized the book immediately.  The title just says Wofgang Puck and the cover is bright yellow only with just those words.  I tend to be a visual person and remember books by the cover mostly.  I need to remember that there are more than one covers sometimes.  Thanks for clearing the mystery for me.

Rinshin - there are two editions of the book, the original published in 1991 (with Puck in chef's garb on the cover) and a reprint published in 2004 (the yellow cover).  You can add the edition that you own to your Bookshelf so the cover matches what you expect to see.  Just click the link here then click +Bookshelf.  Don't forget to remove the edition you don't own or you will see duplicate recipes in your search results.

I do sometimes wonder if EYB members realize that they don't have to add to their Bookshelf the edition that appears in search results (which is the master that was indexed).  If you click the links icon you can see all the linked editions.  Then click the ISBN and add the edition you own.  For example we have 1,759 members owning the UK edition of Jerusalem by Ottolenghi and Tamimi but only 141 members owning the US edition with the different cover.  I'm sure that isn't actually the case.

Thanks for noting that, Jane.

Same thing is true for Plenty: Even though a substantial number of U.S. enthusiasts, too impatient to wait for US publication, did order from the UK, it's difficult to believe that the current EYB bookshelf breakdown reflects the actual editions owned.

Early on, when more EYB entries lacked cover images, I'd often list a different edition than I owned just in order to have the image. Now it's rare for there not to be an accurate cover.
