Notification when a book or magazine has been indexed   Go to last post Go to last unread

I don't appear to have received any notifications for some time when a book/magazine on my bookshelf has  been indexed.

I regularly used to get emails about my newly indexed books and also the Waitrose monthly food magazine. After the tie up with CKBK I was getting emails several times a week, but nothing recently.

I'm not tech savvy, so quite possibly I've done something stupid but I did wonder if anyone else had experienced this?

No you didn't do anything stupid, it looks like there is a glitch at our end - we will get it rectified ASAP.

Yes, I've experienced this, too.

I wonder if that has to do with something else I'm experiencing:

About half the cookbooks on my Bookshelf are unindexed, so I'm very eager to see if any of those cookbooks might be indexed soon.

Before the last few months, some cookbook was usually in the pipeline, but lately when I've filtered for "indexing now books" I've been coming up with zero. Could this be part of the same glitch?

Also, the entries for books no longer tell you how many bookshelves the books are on or the EYBers who have them.

When they did, I discovered new books, and also saw how popular a book was so I could decide whether to request an index.

I can still see this information; I've just checked on both my laptop (using Safari) and on my iPhone, but I agree I have noticed I never have any books in the 'indexing now' category any longer.

Strange, I do with ipad safari.

Rinshin - the issue you are having is that logged on the Books in Common are not working topic where the right side tabs on the details page aren't showing - these are Bookshelves and More Detail. Our developers are working to get this resolved ASAP.

Thank you Jane, I had my first notification in ages today.

That email bug plus the one Rinshin mentioned are now fixed.

I'm still not getting any notifications about which books, if any, have just been indexed or are being indexed now.

bittrette - the emails are definitely going out if the books or magazines are on your Bookshelf. Looking at your Bookshelf it seems that your most recently indexed book was Just One Pan which was indexed in April and your most recently indexed magazine is America's Test Kitchen Special Issue: Best-Ever Salads (2018) which was done in 2019. So it makes me wonder if you are expecting an email every time any book or magazine is indexed on EYB, whether it is on your Bookshelf or not? That is not possible. But it is very easy for you to see the latest indexed books or magazines by using that sort filter in the Library. And you can see books being Indexed Now by applying that filter in the right column (or under the Filter menu on a phone).

I can confirm that I am getting "now indexed" emails for my bookshelf and wishlist books.

Oh well, I was only guessing. The books I have are no longer the books that someone else is indexing. Maybe during the long winter I will learn to index my own books :/

I see that one book I have that has been indexed is a very short book - maybe someone was getting a foot wet.

I have received emails telling a book has been indexed weeks after the event. The most recent occasion was for Nadiya Hussain's "Simple Spices" which I noticed from my bookshelf had been indexed but only received the email something like two weeks later! This is not the only incident of such delayed behaviour. It makes me wonder if such emails are sent out via some route that gets blocked and are only delievered when the blockage is removed. Seen it from othher places too even when the routing involves servers within the same compaany but one of the machines is not properly connected. (Should point out that I was an email consultant for a large computer manufacturer and saw such behaviour frequently.)

ThePatheticBaker, no doubt emails do sometimes go astray or get delayed. However, in the specific case of Nadiya's Simple Spices, the date of indexing is December 25, 2023, which is only five days ago, so there could not have been a two-week delay between completion of indexing and the notification email. Perhaps you are thinking of some other title or some other kind of notification?

I am convinced that this specific book appeared on my bookshelf display (using Sort By: Date Indexed) days even weeks before the "official" announcement was made.

ThePatheticBaker - Nadiya's Simple Spices was assigned to an indexer on Dec 18 and the completed index was approved on Dec 25. The email informing you that the book had been indexed was sent to you on Dec 26.
