Jersey blues are here, and I'm desperately seeking my favorite recipe for blueberry muffins. It was part of a "best recipes" series that ran in the Ladies Home Journal in the 1990's or 2000's. It called for fresh blueberries, some mashed and some left whole. Can anyone pass it along to me? TIA.

I don't have that particular recipe, but take a look at the one from America's Test Kitchen. It sounds similar to theirs. They turn some of the blueberries into a jam and leave some whole.

I don't know if it is otherwise similar, but "Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffins" call for half mashed and half whole blueberries, in a simple batter with flour, sugar, butter and milk. You can find it on many sites if you google that title. In our house they are known as "Great Grandma Mary's blueberry muffins" as she always had them warm out of the oven for grand kids and great grand kids on arrival.

Thanks to all who replied. Blueberry season is still with us here in New York, but it could end at any time. I haven't found that recipe yet, but the perfect is the enemy of the good.

If the recipe were on the Web it would probably be at Recipe.com. That's where Meredith is archiving SOME of the recipes from LHJ. I emailed Recipe.com asking them to please post that recipe. We'll see.

Was this recipe found inside the magazine?  Or Was it published separately in the form of index cards?

It was in the magazine. Maybe in the 1990's?

But you know how it is with magazines - they often publish the same recipe in different formats. So Rinshin, do you have a LHJ recipe for blueberry muffins on a card? One that calls for mashing some of the blueberries and leaving the others whole? Is there a way you can get it to me?

No, the index cards I have are different ones.

Thanks anyway, Rinshin. Since the perfect is the enemy of the good, I'll try another recipe.

My favorite blueberry muffin recipe is in a book by Tish Boyle, called "Flavorful".  It is a really good one.
