My husband just told me this.  I had no idea, but yesterday went to a local store to buy a whole chicken which was on sale so that I can cut up into pieces to make fried chicken.  Around where we live it is hard to find fryer chicken so I usually buy whole and go at it. Today I am making Melba Wilson's version of fried chicken.

You're right. July 6 is National Fried Chicken Day ... all the years I've wasted not celebrating it.

In Japan, the fried chicken day is Christmas. Colonel does a booming business on that day along with strawberry cake.
