Just wondering if you can see other people's bookmarks. I'm looking through my cookbooks for some lower carb recipes and thought it would be helpful if others have already bookmarked some. Thanks.

No, bookmarks are personal to you and cannot be viewed by other members.

Julia there are over 3,900 "low carb" recipes in EYB's online collection .. see here

I guess that you do know you can filter by nutrition.. and "low carb" is a category in EYB..

Sorry to say, but the "low carb" category in EYB does not really work. Unlike categories like vegan or gluten-free which depend on a particular subgroup of disallowed ingredients, low-carb solely depends on whether the recipe writer labels it as such. And people have very different ideas of what is "low-carb". On the other hand, many recipes that are effectively low-carb (such as many salads and many meat dishes) do not get into the category because the recipe writer does not think the carb count matters.

For example, on the first page on my bookshelf in the EYB low-carb category, there are two recipes that are definitely not low carb. One contains bulghur, the other one is a jam that contains sugar, honey, balsamic vinegar and prunes. In addition, there are three recipes that I wouldn't eat on my low-carb diet as I don't think they're low-carb enough.

As a matter of fact, on my bookshelf there are 130 recipes that EYB has labeled low-carb, and 66 recipes that I myself have labeled low-carb, and the only overlap between the two are some personal recipes.

I think it would be worth considering making the bookmarks public. People are sharing lots of other information about their books already, and other sites like LibraryThing also allow you to see other people's bookmarks. Maybe it could even be optional. Yes, I know, your to-do list is big enough as it is, but I would think it a big improvement.

Making personal bookmarks public is an interesting idea and I'd love to know what other members think. Obviously it would have to be optional and I suspect the option would need to be by individual bookmark rather than all of a member's bookmarks e.g. family member favorites would not be of interest to anyone else but "Winter soups" may be. I'm also not sure of a couple of practicalities e.g. there will be thousands of different bookmarks and a lot of variations of names because each tag is created by the member so how do you view the recipes tagged e.g. would all the tags such as gluten-free, gluten free, GF, no gluten, etc all need to be linked to make that filter effective?

wester is correct that we generally only add dietary tags if the author has specified that (except for obvious tags like vegetarian and vegan), which does mean that those tags are incomplete. So for example a book titled as Dairy-free ice creams will have the Dairy-free tag on all the recipes listed. But every recipe for a sorbet with no dairy in it does not have the tag Dairy-free. There were a couple of reasons for this - firstly we did not want our indexers to have to try to calculate for every recipe which tags were relevant especially where the application is quite complex e.g. for gluten-free or kosher; and secondly for many nutrition tags such as low-carb the tag is subjective (as wester notes). And we assumed that most cooks know that sorbets are dairy free or that most salads are low-carb so those tags are not necessary. Likewise we don't add egg-free to every recipe without eggs unless it makes the recipe choice dependent on that tag e.g. cookies or a cake made without eggs.
