What happens after I submit a report for a broken link?

Is it frequent to lose a link for a saved recipe?

MGA - I've found that its always safer to "print to PDF" the online recipe, and save that to my computer in a "recipe" folder. I then put a bookmark on the recipe in my EYB database that allows me to remember that I saved a PDF of the recipe. That way when links are lost - and several get taken down by  the various entities that create online stuff- I still have the recipe!

As debkellie says, it is wise to save in another way any online recipe you are fond of. That could be printing it out, taking a screenshot, saving as a PDF (as Deb suggests) - whatever works best for you.

When we get a broken link report, if the recipe is gone completely then we remove the link. If it is an online recipe that is part of an indexed blog/website then we delete the recipe. If we can find the recipe elsewhere then we repair the link (and we then email you to let you know that the link now works).

Thank you for the suggestions.

Jane - I would love to be able to submit the new/correct link during a broken link report.  It's often a simple search away.  If you added an option field to the report: "Do you have the updated link?" a user could drop it in if they had it and that would be one less step to updating for your team!

Great idea but I suspect it would be used to upload inappropriate links

Unfortunately Indio32 you may be correct since spammers will use every opportunity they can to insert spam links. Though in this case the link will not appear on the site, just come through to us in an email. So there won't be any point in a spammer doing it. I have added this request to our developers list.

I would like to here make a plea that broken links are reported by clicking the "Broken link" link rather than adding a Note on the recipe. In the past I tried to check every note each day but recently that has proved to be impossible. If the issue on the recipe is something other than a broken link e.g. a typo or a missing/wrong ingredient or tag, please click Contact at top right and send the recipe URL so we can correct it.

Has anyone else had trouble with the links to on line recipes from Food and Wine? I have had it happen recently with two recipes. The salmon recipe linked to a list of 40-some salmon recipes, none of them the correct one. The shrimp recipe links to a totally different shrimp recipe.

I just randomly pulled up various recipes with salmon in Food and Wine and they are all linked correctly.  Can you show us few examples?

Barb_N - unfortunately sites have the habit of redirecting links for removed recipes to generic pages or completely different recipes. I suppose their purpose is to keep you on their site and hope you engage with something different though I suspect most people are annoyed by such tactics rather than grateful!
