  • I was making Rangoon crab wontons today. I remember years and years ago  my Mom making what she called crispy crab wontons that contained crab, water chestnuts, green onions and I'm not sure what else. No cheese.  Thought I had saved her recipe, but can't find it. Tried searching online- no luck. Anyone have a recipe?

don't they usually have cream cheese and garlic as well? Here's one recipe.. I'm sure a google search will bring up several from which to choose! 27 EYB online recipes here

If you are after a Chinese style wonton, then napa cabbage and dry mushroom would not be off limit. Crab is pretty delicate, so I'd skip on things like rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and dark soy. White pepper and some light soy. Touch of sugar. Perhaps some grated ginger. No garlic.

The Thousand Chinese Recipe Cookbook includes pork, which is added to a lot of different types of wontons. They also mention bamboo shoot, sherry, and a beaten egg.

Thank you JimCambell for your suggestions. That's what I was looking for, crab filled wonton without cream cheese, as I already have a bit recipe for Rangoon (that I made yesterday).

Like this one. Basically any protein or vegetarian filled fried wontons. I think this was posted in 2004.
