I joined a couple of months ago but hadn't added many cookbooks until the past couple of weeks. While few of my collection are indexed (58 out of 299), I am really enjoying the site.

It's prompted me to organize the cookbooks in my house. I'm trying to cull out some but that's difficult to do. Some of my cookbooks are ones my mother had until she downsized a few years ago. I tell her that it is her fault that I love to read cookbooks :) She still likes to read cookbooks but can only have a few on hand in an apartment. I have gotten rid of a lot of cooking magazines that I have or can get the annual collection in hardback. Magazines take up a lot of space. I donated them and the binders to a local thrift shop that supports a domestic violence shelter. I still have more magazines to send their way. I'm still sorting through boxes of cookbooks that I had in storage. I need more bookshelves :)

It is so great to use EYB to search for a recipe. I had some pork tenderloin that I wanted to cook. Instead of looking for hours through cookbooks and websites to find a recipe, I used EYB to pick out a few and quickly decided on one. The reciped turne out great and got me to use a cookbook I had not used before. (Bourbon-marinated pork tenderloin from Southern Living 2004 Annual Recipes). I love my Southern Living Cookbooks.

I have a number of cookbooks on my Kindle Fire. I was happy to see a few of the large ones indexed on EYB. That should prompt me to use those books.

Pitterpat4, glad that you've joined the ranks of many satisfied EYB members!  I've been a member since October 2009 and it has literally changed my cooking life.  Despite owning dozens of cookbooks, I used to get most of my recipes from Epicurious because it was just so much easier than trying to find something in my books.  Since joining EYB I hardly ever visit Epicurious, and my cookbooks are no longer dust-covered!

I agree - I have cooked things I would never have cooked before, and used books I've had for years but barely used. It's fantastic.

One of the reasons I like EYB - we have a tradition in our household for a daily "coffee & cake".. I *try* not to repeat a recipe (unless by special request), and as EYB tells me I have over 1500 "large cake" recipes in my own library there really is no need to have a repeat! Before EYB I'd probably cook from teh same 3 "old faithful" cake books.. but now , new discoveries everyt 4 days (2 cakes a week!). And, of course,  that's without looking at the online recipes on EYB.... a great resource base!

I don't like coffee but could go for daily cake with milk.

Daily cake sounds great, wish my body can handle that, I'll take mine with a cup of tea please.

I've just joined and am enjoying the site

I have a HUGE collection of cookbooks.  However I am an expat and with every trip.  am slowly schlepping books from home to my location on another continent. It would be really great if some way could be worked out to prove ownership of the book (very hard I know) so that people like me could access their books without needing to put these things in your luggage.

I even had a much loved cookbook stolen from my bag on my last trip!  They also took my microplane grater :-(.   Obviously a baggage handler or security screener who is a foodie!

Welcome!

I'm not sure why you need to prove ownership of your books.  You can add any book you like to your library.  Many people add books they do not own.

EYB does not list recipes - only ingredients and a place to read or leave notes about recipes.

I think that mexjulie would like to access her entire books online if she could prove that she owned the print book, so she doesn't have to carry heavy cookbooks when she travels. I think it's unlikely that publishers will allow access to digital books for free, but it's possible they will allow access for a fee (not full price if you already own the book). We are working on this with publishers.

Amazon offers something similar to this for many of their books.  If you buy the book from Amazon you can get a discounted digital copy.  Still, it's basically buying the same book twice.

I just recently paid for a subscription recenlty as well.  I have 132 cookbooks, yet I seemed to be searching the internet for a recipe when I wanted to cook something. It was easier than say, taking 8 Indian cook books off the shelf and skimming for recipes.

It's been pretty interesting so the recipes people have added notes to.  There are some recipes that I think are gold, and have no notes, and recipes i havent really considered that have many notes, when browsing around.

I think my lazy Sunday activity will be adding notes to recipes from my cookbooks that I love.

Welcome dclong.  I'm so glad to hear you are going through your books and adding Notes - member Notes make EYB so much more valuable for all members.
