Well, yet again this week, I've come home having no idea what to have for dinner - looked in the fridge for what's on hand // needs to be used up and turned to EYB and generated a shortlist of potentials.. I'm sure its become so integral to my  kitchen that the computer now lives in the kitchen, permanently on! And I probably use EYB at least once a day! Food waste has certainly dropped, which I'm not so sure the chickens appreciate!  Thanks EYB!!

I find I check EYB at least once a day to read the latest notes section and the articles by Darcie and Susie.  It is the first place I go now when I am looking for a recipe or for a way to use odds and ends of various ingredients.  I love having the ability while I am at my office to go to EYB and check recipes for something I want to use for dinner at home.  I can quickly scan the recipes for something that is interesting and is also something that I have most of the ingredients for.  I just jot down the name of the cookbook and recipe so that when I get home I can get busy cooking.  I also love using EYB when I am considering buying a cookbook at a thrift store or a new one from Amazon or Powells.  It is great to see whether it is indexed, what kind of recipes it has, and who else has it.  I cannot imagine cooking without EYB anymore.

I use EYB a lot.  I do travel a fair bit but when I'm home I cook most of our dinners and EYB is a great source of inspiration for meal planning.  Like others, I often search by ingredients that I either have on hand or, that I'm hoping to use.  In the summer and autumn I love bringing home my bounty from the farmer's markets and consulting w EYB to plan my meals.  I always try to remember to add my notes and a quick check tells me I'm just two notes away from 1,000!! so yes, I'm definitely using EYB frequently. When I travel, if I'm staying in a flat or villa then I'll still use EYB to search for recipes but limit my search to "Recipe Online".  It's very handy and much easier on the arms then schlepping cookbooks in my already heavy luggage!

I also use EYB when I'm shopping for books.  I consult it to see if I have the book (I have a lot of books and don't always remember...she says hanging her head in shame as she types!), I like to find out what members think about it, whether anyone recommends it or has cooked from it and most importantly, whether it's indexed since it's easier for me to justify a purchase if the book's been indexed since I know I'll get use of it.

When I'm home, I certainly check EYB all the time and no doubt come up with recipes after perusing ideas here.

Like hillsboroks I check it every day to see what's happening in the notes and forums, and I use it to search at least a couple of times a week. My usual way of cooking is to have an idea, read 5 recipes and take the best bits from each one, and EYB is invaluable for that. I'll be thinking "Thai beef salad" and find all the recipes on my shelf for it, then not faithfully follow any.

I'm ruthless about my cookbooks - if they don't work for me they are donated to a charity shop - so I trust the recipes on my shelf much more than I trust random googling or pinterest recipes.

I find that I look at it about 5 times a week because of the blog.  When preparing for a food shop I note down a few things in my fridge and cupboards which need using up and then find recipes to use them.  I seem to have reduced food waste as a result.  I have certainly cut down the amount of time I spent flicking through recipe books looking for ideas.  It also encourages me to use recipes I had overlooked previously.  Lastly I would check on EYB prior to buying any new recipe book, because an indexed book is worth far more to me now than an unindexed one.  Love it!

I use EYB daily, or more.  It's wonderful for finding recipes in my books.  (Where IS that brown sugar brownie recipe that looked so good?)  It's also invaluable for deciding on whether to purchase a book or not.  I always look at the index before purchasing a cookbook.  They are availabe on Amazon, but not always.  I love this website.  I joined right in the very beginning.  It was something I'd wanted to see for a very long time.  I'll never switch to a completely digital cookbook library.  The print books are much better for me to cook from.  EYB is one of the best kitchen tools.  Ever.

I log on to EYB almost every day in order to read the recipe notes. They frequently pique my interest and allow me to go in an otherwise unexplored direction- more so than if I were to search my bookshelf . It helps keep me out of a rut. If only we could search further back or flag reviews even for recipes that are not on our book shelves- I think this was requested and is possibly in the works.
I too use it to decide on buying a cookbook, often learning about the books here first. Sorry to say it hasn't slowed down my buying habit, but I truly am USING them more and not just paging through them.

Huzzah!  And thanks in advance for all the work.

All the time, this is such a great idea! Thanks for all the hard work !

I really wish you stay online forever, because I don't know what I will do without it, now :)

I alternate with : http://www.mycookbook-online.net as it is international (but only indexes online recipes).

I regret a similar website does not exist for France, or not to my knowledge. I have many wonderful French cookbooks and magazines, and now I have to index them all myself (which is an enormous task).

Jane- thank you so much! This is great news. And thank you for providing an index for Prune- a great read but a challenge to cook from, until EYB stepped in.

I absolutely love EYB! I use it mostly to figure out what to make with whatever random ingredients I have laying around (as many have mentioned)...but it has also been helpful in getting me to use my cookbooks (of which I have an insane number) more.

I use EYB all the time.  I take a look at the list of recipes that a cookbook has before I go out to buy it and check out any notes that EYB members have already made on recipes in that book to get a feel for it; I also make notes on recipes I've made and I use it for days like today when I've got some ingredients but don't want to make the same old thing for dinner ... and I've found a new recipe to try.  Very, very useful tool.  I get far more use out of my cookbooks and other recipe sources and I don't get stuck in a rut cooking the same things all the time - it's mid-April and I've already made more than 50 new recipes this year!

Wow, FJT, that's an impressive pace of trying new dishes!  You've inspired me to re-adopt an old resolution, that greatly expanded my skills (and pantry) when I put it into practice for most of a year -- to cook one new dish a week.

EYB bookmarks have made it a lot simpler to choose a recipe to try.  It's particularly satisfying when the new dish expands the regular rotation because it's a successful, new-to-us way to enjoy an ingredient that's easily available and a regular part of our larder  (e.g. chicken, sweet potatoes, black beans, etc.)   But EYB has also been a great help in taking advantage of occasional finds: interesting citrus in mid-winter, uncommon fresh herbs unexpectedly available, a neighbor's windfall of peaches...

I too use it every day. I usually check the notes to find new recipes, I use the bookmarks to identify things I want to make and since I grow a lot of my own vegetables I have created bookmarks for each of my major crops. This way I am never stuck with a lot of snow peas for example, and no new ideas of what to make with them. I take a lot of cook books out of the library, and it's a great way to find the most promising things to try from these books. Also, one of my formerly favourite blogs, the kitchn, has now become riddled with posts I have absolutely no interest in. So a couple of times a week I check this blog on EYB. It's a great way to keep up with their recipes without having to read the blog! I really appreciate the reviews others have provided, so I try to post as many reviews as I can and make them as useful as possible. It's such a great resource!

I'm another daily user and I try a lot of new recipes and make better use of my many cookbooks because of it. I have bookmarks for ingredients which are further designated by whether I want to try the recipe of have made it and like it. I especially use the bookmarks for recipes for fruits I grow so I have uses at the ready when they are available (figs, rhubarb, plums, berries, blood oranges). I don't know what I would do without EYB!
