When a recipe asks for "cooked quinoa" does that mean you can buy it cooked or that you cook it yourself, and if so how?

I'm fairly certian it means you've cook it yourself - either using leftovers or cooking it freshly for this recipe. I have never seen cooked quinoa in the shops - and I imagine it wouldn't be very nice!

I've never seen cooked quinoa in the shops either. But it's easy to cook, and I use the method from 'Supergrains' by Chrissy Freer:

1 cup/200g quinoa

2 cups/500ml water

(Yields 3 cups/555g)

Rinse quinoa in sieve for 30 seconds. Bring water and quinoa to boil over medium heat, cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 12 minutes or grains turn translucent and uncurl, and have an al dente texture. Red and black varietes may need a few extra minutes. For a slightly nuttier flavour, toast the quinoa in a hot dry pan for 1-2 minutes, stirring, prior to cooking.

Store bought cooked quinoa is common in our household.  We purchase it in microwavable pouches.  There are many brands.  We tend to buy Simple Truth Organic.

In the UK, Merchant Gourmet do pouches of ready-cooked grains and pulses, including quinoa. I haven't tried it but have used their Puy lentils, they were OK but not as good as home-cooked. Their packs of ready-cooked chestnuts are around in large numbers before Christmas and those are very good. This thread has reminded me that I have a packet of ready-cooked freekeh lurking in the larder! Perhaps I'll get round to using it now.

According to their website they are stocked by major supermarkets, I know that Waitrose stock them as that's where I do my main shop. They're quite often used in the recipes in the Waitrose Food magazine.

May I also direct you to this webpage. https://wendypolisi.com/...quinoa-in-a-rice-cooker/

Since I found this, I have only ever used the ricecooker to prepare quinoa.
