How do I install the Bookmarklet on Chrome with Android 12? The word "Bookmarklet" isn't in the EYB home page.

I found this instruction online for installing a Bookmarklet on Android Chrome.  You will find the Javascript you need to copy here. Apologies it isn't easier but the phone companies do not make is easy to instal bookmarklets.

No, because there's no Favorites bar in my Chrome browser, and Chrome doesn't provide directions for opening or adding the Favorites bar.

This is Android 12, not an ancient version.

And the word "Bookmarklet" appears nowhere on the home page, nor an I find anywhere to access the Bookmarklet on the entire EYB site.

Alternatively, I would Iike directions for adding personal recipes without the Bookmarklet.

Here is the error message I just received. If I can't paste it here I will use email.

"Currently not supported by your browser; use keyboard shortcuts instead."

But there are no keyboard shortcuts on my Android device.

OK, here's what prompted the error message:

javascript:(function()%20{%20window.open('https://www.eatyourbooks.com/bookshelf/add-online-recipe?url='+encodeURIComponent(window.location.href), '_blank', 'location=no,links=no,scrollbars=yes,toolbar=no,status=no,menubar=no,width=1040,height=800');%20})();

And the error message is:

We have comprehensive Help sections on all features of EYB:

Installing the Bookmarklet
Bookmarklet on a mobile
Adding Personal Recipes to your Bookshelf
Personal Recipes & Bookmarklet Manual

If you are on a laptop and cannot see the Bookmarklet widget on the Home Page you need to change your Zoom setting to 100%. If you cannot see the favorites toolbar you need to instal it.

I am not on a laptop; I am on a Samsung Galaxy S10 phone with Android 12. JavaScript is enabled, but I still get that error message.

NONE of the menus I have found on my phone have either Appearance or Show Bookmarks bar.

NONE of the help articles on the Bookmarklet have been any use to me; they tell me to tap menu items that I have not found on any menu on this device.

See the error message I have reproduced in a previous post.

Is there a way to save the Bookmarklet as a bookmark without the bookmark bar?

I will respond to you by email. But for any other members who may have the same issue:

Yes, the Bookmarklet can be installed on a phone or tablet without a bookmarks bar. You have to install Javascript, explained here:
Install the Bookmarklet on an iPhone

Yes, a Personal Recipe can be created without a Bookmarklet. You copy and paste the URL for the recipe rather than importing it. Again, explained here in Help.

Wish I could have Bookmarklet as a browser add-on rather than it sitingt on the Bookmark toolbar. The Zotero bibliography manager has a browser add-on and does similar things (scrape data from Amazon and other sites).

Why do I want an add-on version? Because I do not ordinarily use the Bookmark toolbar. In fact until now that has been empty and not displayed. Too many actual bookmarks to put on a single toolbar plus all those sites I might put on one are permanently open in browser windows. For now I have to Shift ⌘ B to display/hide the bookmark toolbar to get the Bookmarklet available.

For the time being I'm considering another approach. I've given up on Chrome - it's a clunky browser anyway - but my phone has two other browsers already installed, and Samsung Internet does have a bookmark bar.

Different browsers for different purposes.

I've never used Chrome. I'm pathologically allergic to Google; I use DuckDockGo as my search engine of choice. I use Safari on my Macs exacrtly once — to download Firefox. Although I do use Safari on my iPhone and iPad because Apple insist on Webkit being used but there I do not make use of bookmarks at all.

Firefox and Safari have bookmark toolbars but I chose not to display them as I have so many bookmarks all my screen estate would be 1 pixel high! Hence I turn that feature off.

Where the support articles say the Bookmarklet is, there is instead a link for gifting EYB. Is the bookmarklet still around somewhere? I'm on Safari on MacOS, BTW.

There can be issues in the display of the Bookmarklet widget, depending on your browser settings. As mentioned on the Bookmarklet Help page, you may need to reset your browser zoom setting to 100%.

Thanks. That was the issue. I hadn't read that article because the title indicated it applied to installing on Google Chrome and I was working with Apple Safari.
