As Hannibal used to say "I love it when a plan comes together".

A few months ago Food Network UK broadcast a series of cookery/travelogue programmes fronted by English food writer Sophie Grigson about her move from Oxford to Puglia. Unfortunately at the time of broadcast no recipes for Grigson's interpretations of local recipes were available. Even if they were the items I wanted to know about were delicacies either mentioned in passing or discussed with producers but Grigson did not herself make.

Then yesterday as I did my daily check of the library listing here for new/newly-index books imagine my joy on seeing Grigson's recent book A Curious Absence of Chickens listed! Straight off to the store — the Apple Books store — and found it there for £3.99; instant download and I have it. Score one thousand for EYB!

Imagine my further joy when I returned to the Food Network UK's website — by the way UK based people cannot access the US version at all — to find that her recipes had finally appeared there. Of course still no recipes for those delicacies but thankfully Food Network have also posted episode summaries and there were enough hints for me to search the book and find recipes for them. The one I really wanted to see and then bake was Biscotti Cegliesi an almond biscuit with a jam centre.

EYB proves its worth yet again.

I love Sophie Grigson. I already have more than ten of her books. So, what is it that makes this one special? Should I resist getting yet another cookbook, or is this one worth it?

Can't really say how it differs from her other books because this is the first one I have purchased. The draw for me was that it chronicled her sojourn to Puglia in more detail than the TV series the Food Network UK broadcast recently.

I much prefered her mother Jane Grigson to Sophie Grigson as a presenter but there was something about this Italian travelogue/cookery show that captured my attention and I simply had to have the book when it popped up here on EYB as Indexed.

Wester, in my opinion its NOT worth it. Unless you like autobiographies.

I really love Jane Grigson's books but I'm not sure I've ever seen her on TV. I'd be curious to watch if there are clips or programmes available online somewhere. Did she do much TV?
