An extended stay at my brother’s house spanning US Thanksgiving thru New Year’s, and cooking in their kitchen, has left me with multiple insights, pro and con…
CON: I hated not having my Microplanes when zesting citrus and grating hard cheeses. Once you Microplane, there is no going back.
PRO: Lacking a citrus reamer, I tried the tongs hack. OMG the leverage! It actually works way better and easier than a reamer, it works way better and easier than a juicer. When I get home, tongs are going to be my go to for citrus juicing.
CON: Multiple, big, preps bowls really speeds things up. I didn’t realize how much I relied on them. Limited to one, I was slowed down a fair bit in some circumstances.
PRO: I have latex gloves at home. They have nitrile gloves. Even sticky doughs (e.g., biscotti) don’t stick to nitrile gloves. When I get home, I’m buying nitrile gloves and the latex gloves get consigned to cleaning tasks.
