I do!  I search for copies at thrift stores.   What a great magazine!  Recipes from everywhere and the photos!

I certainly do! I still remember buying my first copy in graduate school. The magazine had such a positive impact on my development as a cook that I set out to collect every issue which I evenutally managed to do (thank you, eBay). It's fascinating to observe the trends in cooking and magazine publishing when you read from January 1941 through the ensuing decades. I still cook from many of them, primarily from the 90s and early 00s. I've also added many of the recipes to the Personal Recipes category here on EYB for easy searching. The question is what to do with all of the issues when I eventually downsize. Libraries aren't interested in them but I can't bear to just pitch them. For reference, I'd guess they take up 25 linear feet of bookshelves.

Thanks for your reply!  Wow, that is an amazing collection. I am in awe!  They must look amazing as a group!

Good news! Today I read that it is coming back- in some form!

Hi!  Thank you for the news!  That is really great!  Looking forward to seeing whatever it is!

Here's the link to the New York Times article about it:

https://www.nytimes.com/...magazine-newsletter.html

It states, among other things, "The co-founders declined to share future article subjects, but said they planned to publish one feature and one recipe per week, in addition to bonus content for higher-tiered subscribers."

Personally, $7 a month for one recipe a week plus articles does not signify a rebirth, but another species altogether.

I agree with you, KatieK1. And the new logo is a travesty to my eyes. It seems they are targeting a different demographic than the magazine. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Well, the Gourmet logo is certainly not my taste.  Apparently, the trademark was not renewed by the previous publisher.  And it is a newsletter.  Very sorry to say, not what I had remotely expected.  Back to the thrift stores for old copies for me.

What, if anything, remotely like Gourmet still being published?

See my comment on Darcie's home page blog post today. Disappointed but not surprised.

I used to love reading through those in the evening to relax. I would be so excited when a new issue would arrive.  For me, the articles on travel and the table settings were what made the magazine exceptional.  The world is different now and I am sure they could not compete with all the recipes available on the internet nor all the travel sites.  I was so sad to part with my collection when we moved and am still kicking myself!

I subscribed to the new Gourmet, and unsubscribed.  I spend a lot of money on Substack subscriptions, but $7 a month for practically nothing?  No thanks.

I kept only a few of my issues of the old Gourmet, mostly the Christmas cookie ones. I do miss it, not just the recipes but the essays.

I have a somewhat inadequate surrogate: I am doing a jigsaw puzzle of the cover of a vintage Gourmet magazine from the fifties.

I had all issues from start even in book binder form but started culling them about six months ago on  biweekly schedule with our recyclable paper can. This applies to Bon Appetit from about 1980. I am done with them and need to clear out. My husband laughs at some of the older ones he throws out with lots of cigarette and booze ads.

They got to be too much for me as well.  I've only kept the November and December issues.

I miss it so much and often think of the last November 2009 issue cover; I'm a very visual person. I've done my best to collect all of the magazines during Ruth Reichl's editorial period because the articles were so relevant and impactful to me.
