Help! Re Australian cook books of 1970s or 1980s?   Go to last post Go to last unread

It appears I chucked out my husband's set of introductory cookery books from before we met. Guess who's unpopular! We only just noticed because I always did the cooking, but don't feel up to it lately. He made a casserole, pasties, and omelettes from these books - not Earth shattering, but since I don't have to do it, they'd be very welcome right now.

The series or set of books were slim, probably published in Australia in the 1970s or early 80s, had really clear instructions for a novice, illustrations for each recipe and although exact titles are unknown, one covered each topic of: roasts, casseroles, pastries (including pasties), salads and egg dishes or omelettes. They were NOT Australian Women's Weekly books. They must have looked pretty unpreposessing for me to chuck them out. Please don't suggest other recipe books that might help. I have plenty of those but NOTHING will do but his old familiar friends. I have means of reacquiring them if anyone can suggest the author or publisher! It'll be a few weeks before I'll feel like cooking again.

Can anyone help?

Maybe good old Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet - his TV series (7 series)  in early 70s had a cookbook accompaniment for each series!

Thanks Deb but I don't think so, and it looks as though I'll have to give up. My dearly beloved is trying to move on and try other recipes for Cornish pasties now. He tried one of Gabriel Gate's the other night which seemed similar. He isn't entirely happy with the results, but will give it another try.

Thanks

Family Circle seems to have had mini cookbooks on just about everything. They probably date back to that time. If he looks down the list on ebay ,he might recall if they look familiar.
