I use the site exclusively on a laptop (notebook).  The green stars are easy to distinguish from grey if the whole star is green, but the 'half star' is much less obvious than when they were yellow.  I don't star much or pay a lot of attention to the star ratings, but if I did I'd definitely prefer the yellow.

Love having access to all notes, thanks so very much.

Now the top of my feature/bug fix wishlist is the ability to read my own private notes (when viewing my own profile, at least, but it would be nice to see them in the big chronological list, also).

Best wishes for speedy resolution of the tablet/phone issues; I know it must/will be nice to have the full array of features.

Love the fact that I can access all the notes, not just the most recent .... But I was wondering if there was a way to filter so I can just see notes for the books / blogs etc.., that I own? I've tried but I'm having some problems viewing some of the tutorial on my iPad (it keeps getting stuck and then not letting me look at anything else) and I won't get back to my desktop for a week or so). I agree with some others that the homepage looks a bit busy, but I can live with that once I get used to where things are. Appreciate that you can't satisfy everyone, all the time!!!

saladdays, ellabee, ReenaCooks - thank you for your lovely comments

ellabee and FJT - having a Notes tab for your own Bookshelf is on our to-do list. We had hoped to include it in this release but it wasn't possible. It will be in the next couple of months. We are planning that will include that private Notes will appear there and on your Profile page listing.

FJT - we think the issues with the tutorials are fixed. But if it happens again, please do email us and let us know which page you got stuck on.

I love that you can now scroll through the notes; however I am having a bit of an issue with readability of the notes.

On the home page, the "by xxx about recipe from cookbook" begins on a new line with a bit of spacing after the recipe review. This makes it easy to scan through the notes and pick out the name of the cookbook. However, when you go from the home page to the longer list of notes, this info just wraps from the end of the recipe review rather than at the start of a new line. I find it hard to pick out the recipe name and book title when the note is formatted this way.

Thanks for listening.

stockholml28 - agree with your suggested change, it would be much easier to read. I've put in a request to change - few bugs to fix first.  Thanks for your feedback.

Love the update, particularly the ability to read long lists of Notes.  Nothing better than to bop over to EYB and scroll through folks' thoughts after slogging through my own office work.  Some suggestions, which are mine only and may not apply to others:  on the left-hand margin of the Notes, there is a big blank space.  Would be lovely to have a box for checking off a Note to which I want to return.  That way, I could continue to scroll without having to close the Notes, move to the referenced book, move to the referenced recipe, and then decide if it's worth pursuing.  I also agree that the home page is busy...annoying, actually.  The green boxes could be smaller and even outlined with a thin black border to block out all the rest of the goings-on.  Also, what's with the very center strip of Anna-Jacques-Diana items?  These were already old news in the old edition.  I would actually rather see an ad for new members front-and-center.  My suggestions for the future, for I know bug fixes are priority right now.  Thank you very much.

rivergait - thanks for the feedback. You are seeing white space to the left of the Notes because you are viewing it on your laptop. The pages on the site have to be optimized for viewing on any size of screen from a very wide monitor to small phone screen. So I'm not sure it would work to have space taken up with tick boxes. One solution, at least when viewing on a laptop is to open recipes you like the look of by opening a new tab (CTRL and click on title). You can also set Safari to do this on an iPad or iPhone within Settings - click Safari then set Open Links to "In New Tab". At the end of browsing Notes you can then look through the tabs you opened, closing each you are not interested in, or adding to your Bookshelf or marking with Bookmarks, those that you are.

We are revisiting the Home Page and tidying it up. It really wasn't what we wanted when we launched but we reached the point where we needed to get the new site up or we were going to be forever fine tuning it. Now it is up, and once the bugs are fixed, we will be making that look less messy.

Thx for the tips and speedy response, Jane.  The Control/ "New Tab" thing worked like a champ.  I'll sit back and wait for your tidying of the home page.  Good work, people.

Using an ipad I simply take screenshots of items I am interested in and then I quickly have a dated record, which I can check through at leisure. Particularly good for keeping Jane's tips for better use of EYB.

A suggestion for minimizing the busy-ness of the home page without any reprogramming:  Avoid split-screen effects in the blog graphic like the ones in the 'Magic' and 'new Dorie Greeenspan' posts.  Strive for a serene single graphic over which the promo text will read clearly.

[Edited to add:] It's odd; it seems as if almost every one of the recent blog posts has some element of picture within picture / multiple 'screens', where that was quite uncommon before the site redesign.  Please try one person or food image per post, at least until the new site look has settled in; this is adding an extra dose of busy-ness at the wrong moment.

Oh no! What happened to the ability to exclude ingredients from your search?

This is a super important feature when you are cooking for people with food allergies.

Please please find a way to reintroduce this!

#75 Posted : Wednesday, April 27, 2016 8:33:05 AM(UTC)

Hi Katti,

You should still be able to exclude ingredients. When you select an ingredient using the filters on the right, you will now see it added below the search box in a green bubble. If you click on the + symbol in the green bubble, it will change to a - and the bubble will turn dark gray indicating it has been excluded. Here is an example of a search in the Library for online recipes that do not contain cheese and are main courses.

If you are not able to do this on your device or are still having trouble, please let us know.

I'm good with all the changes.  I just joined a little bit ago and am still learning the system.  So I will just relearn anything that has changed.

I joined, as I am sure many of us did to be more creative with and find my recipes and cookbooks.  I never could remember where 'that noodle recipe' was.  Anytime I have a question, it is answered within the day.

Let's all lighten up and truly appreciate the time and effort that has been put into this site.  Be adventurous and go with the flow.

Thanks

Christine - I really like how we can exclude ingredients and other ciriteria now.  Easy to see and very cool!  Lots of great improvements.

I'm using Android 4.4 on the Samsung Galaxy S4. On the stock browser the site is completely unusable, and I mean completely unusable. On Chrome the text size is already set to the maximum, and if I want to look at the numbers, e.g. how many users have a book on their bookshelves, I must choose between using my reading glasses or getting eyestrain.

Why don't you have adjustable settings - do you really believe that one size fits all?
#79 Posted : Wednesday, April 27, 2016 10:01:15 PM(UTC)

bitrette - the zoom feature is back for phones and tablets. If you cannot see it, try signing out then signing back in again. If you still cannot zoom on your phone, please let us know and our developer can investigate why your phone model has an issue.

Where might I find the zoom feature if I looked fpr it?
#81 Posted : Wednesday, April 27, 2016 10:44:03 PM(UTC)

You need to have magnification gestures enabled in your settings. This is explained here. Out of interest, if you don't use magnification (or zoom) on your phone, how was the old EYB site better for you?
