    Buddhist vegetarian delight (lo han jai) (pg 246) includes nothing from the allium family. Rather it includes black shitake mushrooms, snow fungus, bean curd sticks, bamboo shoots, mung bead thread, Napa cabbage, carrots, peanuts, water chestnuts, straw mushrooms ... with soy sauce as flavoring. This mixture is better than I have gotten in any restaurant. The sauce is perhaps a little too authentic ... I served sriracha sauce as an option. For a repeat I will find a way to strengthen the sauce and not violate a Buddhist monk's dietary rules.
