Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Barley with beetroot greens

    • Melanie on July 28, 2014

I will make this one again. Simply and tasty, despite substituting water for stock - the currants seemed to taste more like barberries. I had to add extra water to ensure the barley didn't dry out / cooked thoroughly. Served with the pickled beetroot salad from Hetty McKinnon's Community cookbook for lunch.

  • Lamb manti with yoghurt, sumac and dried mint

    • Colleen01 on September 20, 2014

A very fiddly & time consuming recipe. I ended up just baking rather than boiling as well. 3cm squares of dough was not quite big enough to wrap my lamb balls. So, I rolled each square a bit bigger after cutting. Used only about half the dough. 100gm of butter is a lot - will halve next time. However, this was very, very tasty & will make again

  • Boston baked beans

    • KarinaFrancis on October 18, 2014

I was looking for a baked bean recipe that used canned beans as I didn't have time to soak dried beans. This was really delicious. I made a few changes, adding some English mustard as well as the prescribed Dijon, frying off the onions and speck and a bit of maple syrup with the golden syrup. I also didn't have time to use the slow cooker so I cooked it on the stovetop and it was done in just over an hour. I'd make it again but wouldn't bother with the slow cooker.
