Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Spiced burger with houmous & onion relish

    • eeeve on July 08, 2015

The recipe sounds like it's more work than it actually is, especially when using pre-cooked beans and/or quinoa. The mixture was quite sloppy and I had to bring it together with a couple tablespoons of breadcrumbs, but then the burgers fell apart on cooking, so maybe they were too dry after all. Subbed dates with prunes and apricot jam with marmalade; the smoked paprika gives it that nice barbecue feel, and I liked the taste, but I don't think I'll make them again. (Only made the burger - not the houmous and relish.)

  • Mexican marinated pork tenderloin

    • FJT on October 02, 2015

The marinade is absolutely delicious which is just as well as it had to be cooked, blitzed and cooled before the meat went in which was more work than I really wanted to do (I'm used to much simpler marinades!). The pork was succulent and tasty but took a lot longer than the time stated in the recipe to cook and my oven is usually fairly accurate. I tested the pork after the stated time using an instant read thermometer and it was only 32C in the centre!! I regret turning the oven down as the recipe recommends and I had to cook it for at least twice as long as the recipe says. That aside, the results were great and I will make it again.

  • Rye bread

    • eeeve on June 17, 2015

This bread tastes okay, bitter-sweet due to the treacle, but I don't think it keeps very well - it tasted better on the day it was made. It's a bit crumbly, too, but that's probably because I substituted buckwheat for rye flour.
