      This is almost everything that I'd look for in a Christmas butter cookie. They're buttery and crunchy without being dry. They're sweet without being too sweet. I didn't use salted butter; I just added salt to the recipe. Instead of a vanilla bean, I used an equivalent amount of vanilla paste.

  • Fried chicken thighs with cheesy grits

      The chicken is crispy and moist but it wasn't my favorite spice rub (purely personal preference here). The grits were good but I felt the cream cheese dominated the other flavors. I had to modify the greens as I realized I didn't have hot pepper jelly.
