Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Orange veg one-tray soup

    • TinkerTaylor on May 05, 2026

Delicious! Didn’t even need the added extras to top the soup with. If you like a thick soup like me, only add half the water needed and some extra pumpkin!

  • Broad bean, asparagus & soba noodle salad

    • pomona on September 24, 2023

Moorish and satisfying. I used half the recipe's shichimi togarashi and will halve again next time as it is quite spicy. Do not adjust if you love spice. If you don't like spice you probably don't have it in your cupboard, so leave it out altogether!

Yummy salad! I didn’t put any togarachi in (left to sprinkle on top at the end) and used peanut butter instead of tahini which had great flavour. Sesame is definitely the strongest flavour in the dressing but pairs well with the noodles. I also added green beans and blanched spinach to pack in the greens. Also half the noodle quantity was perfect to balance out the veggies

  • Anzac bikkies

    • rosie_t81cht on May 28, 2026

Simple, delicious, don't skip the salt!

  • Not quite Niçoise

    • TinkerTaylor on April 14, 2026

Delicious recipe! To make it a bit faster, I don’t char the beans or tomatoes, and use lettuce to fluff it out for dinner.

  • Lemon & poppy seed ant cake

    • cookingbychapter on February 16, 2024

This didnt turn out well for me at all. I didn't like that the recipe said "at least 1/4 cup of lemon juice." It felt confusing to me. At least? Is more better? No measurement for the zest. I found the measurements way off as well, especially for the flour. The cake was an unappealing grey color due to the huge amount of poppy seeds and tasted very bland. Would not make again.

Publishers Text

Better cooking is a lifelong journey. It’s the flick of a wrist, a pinch of the fingers, the whiff of a waft; it’s intuition. It’s muscle memory – from childhood, through school and into your young-adult years – and dinner parties where you learn to keep things simple ... eventually. But what happens when we miss a stage? Or three? The Art of Better Cooking is a collection of more than 75 recipes recipes (plus countless riffs) that you’ll want to cook on a weekly basis, with tips and tricks scribbled in the margins. Featuring confidence-building chapters like Really Outstanding Things Simply Thrown Together (All-seasons Avo Half and Wedge Caesar), through to Loosen the Shoulders (Fried Green Falafels) and building up to Seriously Good Sweeties (yes you can make Salt and Pepper Creme Caramel). All recipes are veg-forward with plenty of suggestions for adaptations and spotlights on favourite produce
