Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Spinach dip

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Make sure you squeeze ALL the water from the frozen spinach. This is easy & delicious.

  • Cheese spread

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Mom called this Beer Cheese. It is very yummy and makes a great app when going to a party. Keep in the fridge for about a week.

  • Moore chicken

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

I serve on a silver tray- all drumsticks - a huge hit at fancy parties. I use 1/2 powdered parmesan cheese & 1/2 bread crumbs and milk or egg instead of butter.

  • Vanessa's cocktail meatballs

    • mfto on July 21, 2016

I made this appetizer several times after I bought the book around 1990. It's a no-brainer, I guess, not sophisticated BUT don't we all need this type of recipe in our back pockets, especially for entertaining a crowd. Years later when my daughter was a new bride giving Christmas parties every year, she also used this easy recipe.

  • Crab meat pie

    • mfto on July 21, 2016

I have been making this recipe for our family's beach week almost every year since 1992. Why? Well, one good reason is all ingredients can be taken to the beach and, except for the cream cheese, can be stashed in a cupboard until needed. It is best to make the appetizer the night before you plan to serve and let the flavors improve in the fridge. Hungry beach-goers are less critical of Happy Hour food and this is a dish they only get once a year.

  • Smoked oyster spread

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

They sell tins of smoked oysters at Publix. I think this will be delish. I'll do 1/3 less fat cream cheese and greek yogurt instead of mayo.

  • Bootleg

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

I think a virgin version would be refreshing summertime.

  • Eggnog

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

A non alcoholic version would great to learn- I can never find thin in the store.

  • Las Vegas Flamingo

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

I would make w/o the alcohol- love that everything is unsweetened.

  • White sangria

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Looks delicious. Great for ladies brunch or girls night.

  • Amaretto

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Easy to make- great Christmas gift. I like to hull strawberries, fill each w/ amaretto, and top w/ whipped cream. Messy, but great fun especially for outdoor summer parties.

  • Coffee-flavored liqueur

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

This is the recipe for Kahlua. Great for presents - quick and easy to make.

  • Whispers

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Delicious after dinner drink. Kitty makes these at the beach every year. She 1/2 way melts a gallon of vanilla ice cream and then puts it in the blender w/ the liquors.

  • Mulled cider

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Mom used to make a non alcoholic version of this every Christmas for tree trimming. She used apple juice and cranberry use with maybe little OJ and an orange w/ cloves stuck into it.

  • Quick vegetable soup

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Reminds me of my grandmother's recipe. I will skip cabbage and macaroni and use frozen okra and corn as well. Instead of canned mixed veggies, I'll do frozen peas and carrots and maybe snow pea pods.

  • Cream of crab meat soup

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

This is very heavy but delicious- can use egg yolks in the bottom of the cup in lieu of caviar.

  • Crab bake

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

This is a brunch favorite! Easy and classy. I use dried basil instead of accent. I use 1/2 and 1/2 instead of heavy cream. You could sub frozen chopped (or fresh) spinach for one of the cups of cheese

  • Polly's curried eggs

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Boil eggs ahead to save time. It is delicious! Use powdered bullion and dried minced onion to save time. Also, could buy bread cubes toasted or cube and toast ahead or make toast and cut into cubes

  • Quiche Lorraine

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Excellent and easy to double and freeze. A favorite when delivering meals to friends- pair w/ spinach salad w/ strawberries and feta & raspberry walnut vinaigrette

  • Mexican nacho dip

    • evandewater23 on December 30, 2021

Party pleaser:) I mix taco seasoning w/ sour cream instead of using taco sauce. If you want to decrease fat, use Breakstone's reduced fat sour cream. Green peppers are optional. Fritos or tortilla scoops work best for serving.
