Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Green bean salad with creamy lemon sauce and crisp capers

    • Logan92995 on April 05, 2026

Tasty, and easy to throw together. Could see myself making this for a dinner party with friends

  • La Viña-style cheesecake

    • anya_sf on April 20, 2023

I made 1/2 recipe in a 7" pan. Baking time was the same, although the top of my cheesecake got super dark and singed around the edges. I thought the edges were a little bitter as a result, but others didn't seem to mind. Served with macerated strawberries rather than the cider caramel sauce. On the first day, we had this at room temperature as recommended, but on the 2nd day straight from the fridge, which I liked just as well. My mother-in-law thought this cake's texture was nicer and lighter than most cheesecakes'.

  • Coffee Negroni

    • anya_sf on January 25, 2023

I used Kahlua. This was a nice twist on a negroni, although a little syrupy. I could tell something was added (not just from the color), but don't know that I would be able to identify it as coffee liqueur if I hadn't made this myself.

Publishers Text

Cook's Country showcases "country cooking": simple, great-tasting homemade food--Sunday dinners, potluck suppers, backyard barbecues, and even kids' birthday parties. And you can be sure that Cook's Country's recipes will come out right the first time, and every time, you go in the kitchen. We've taken the obsessive recipe development techniques that we've polished through years at America's Test Kitchen (which involve testing and tweaking recipes as many as 100 times until we are certain that anyone who follows them will meet with success) and brought them to Cook's Country. Cook's Country's mission is to reclaim, revive, and restore classic American heirloom recipes.
