Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Broccoli with cheese sauce

    • lkgrover on November 28, 2022

Good broccoli side dish. I will use this cheese sauce on other vegetables too.

  • Squash casserole

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

This was amazing. Best dish at the cookbook club for this book.

  • Creamed chicken

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

This was only just okay. Too low on seasoning for my tastes even though I added garlic.

  • Baked cheese grits

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

This was good but not as good as the other cheese grits recipe.

  • Baked garlic or cheese leftover grits

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

Some of the best cheese grits I've had, and I've had a lot. The garlic really makes it.

  • Chocolate cream pie

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

Very tasty. The person who made it at our cookbook club used Ghirardelli chocolate, and it was amazingly good.

  • Curried shrimp

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

The person in our cookbook club who made this used chicken instead of shrimp. It was do more-ish.

  • Bread pudding

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

Somehow, this tasted like it had more spices than it really did. Perhaps it was the addition of pineapples. One of the best I've ever had

  • Benne cookies

    • paisleymonsoon on September 14, 2023

I'm not a huge cookie person but made them for cookbook club because they were intriguing. Sweet, salty, and a better umami flavor than peanut butter cookies ever had. I hate PB cookies, but I loved these.

  • Shrimp and macaroni salad

    • Babycarrot on April 24, 2023

This makes a large amount of macaroni salad. Not that I'm complaining, but just be prepared for lots of leftovers. The recipe is easy enough, and very little work. Would be great for a BBQ. She instructs that this can be served room temp or cold, but I prefer to make it ahead and serve/eat it cold. Don't be shy with the paprika and celery salt as this can eat bland without. I am pretty sure I also increased the amount of mustard and pickle relish (just eyeballed it).

  • Banana bread

    • Babycarrot on April 24, 2023

This is a good banana bread and makes two loves. The measurements are kind of wonky depending on the size of your bananas. I liked the addition of both vanilla and almond extracts alongside the (regular) walnuts as we cannot source black walnuts here. A good way to use up some extra self-rising flour that I had on hand.
