Turmeric and apricot giant cous cous: Really yummy. I made as part of a Middle Eastern spread with friends and it went nicely with all the veggie dishes, dips and bready things. There are a few separate stages (peeling and roasting the carrots, grating lemon zest, pickling shallots) but overall nothing taxing. I think next time I make it I'll make sure to have leftovers for packed lunches.

Freezer cookies. I loved this idea - keeping cookie dough in the freezer to make small batches of freshly baked cookies whenever you like. They didn't disappoint. Make sure to follow the suggested thickness when slicing otherwise the frozen dough falls apart. I overbaked mine (my fault, not the recipe's) but they were still delicious - crunchy on the outside and soft inside as the author says. They're pretty sweet (like American style cookies) so I may reduce the sugar slightly next time. But overall they were a hit.

  • Banana pancakes

My three-year-old really enjoyed making and eating these. We just ate them with butter but they're fairly neutral tasting, so fancier toppings like yogurt and berries would probably work well. My husband wasn't a fan (though he isn't mad on pancakes generally) and my daughter wasn't as keen on them when they'd been kept in the fridge and toasted the next day, but I still enjoyed them that way. A probable repeat.

  • Lemon, yogurt & olive oil cake

12/10. Everything I want in a cake. Super moist, tender crumb. I reduced by 40% to fit on a one-pound loaf tin. Made citrus sugar as the first step. Added citric acid to the syrup for an extra sour tang. Chopped a preserved lemon and distributed through the batter.

Publishers Text

Sundays: A cookbook is full of laidback food that's absolutely packed with flavour. Sundays are special. Yes, sometimes we might feel like we're slowly dying because of the night before, yet even then, there's joy to be had in the ravenous hunger, copious carbs, and the legitimacy of binge-watching a TV show, especially if the weather is dreary. Other times, Sunday is about sharing, feasting with friends, BBQing, leisurely long lunches or brunches because it's the one day of the week when mealtimes are flexible. Or perhaps it's a Sunday reset, the self-love of a bath, book, and a big plate of greens.

'Nduja parmigiana for a crowd or miso brown butter scrambled eggs for 2; roasted garlic veggie Caesar salad and Key lime meringue pie... every recipe is designed to be irresistibly tasty and easy to make, with step-by-step tips on how to get several dishes out at the same time plus batch-cooking tasty toppings that can pep up lots of other meals.

Whichever way you Sunday, it's the perfect day for cooking and eating and feeling present - even if that's with a hangover.
