For best results (at least in my particular square baking dish): slice three of the croissants on the diagonal, and three in nice standard quadrilateral halves. Arrange so that each row contains one triangle and one quadrilateral, alternating which shape is on which side. This is *very* rich; I forgot about the extra sugar and I'm honestly mildly relieved about that!
Very nice even with cheap sparkling wine, as long as it's not too sweet - plenty of sweetness from the elderflower liqueur. Doesn't fill a champagne flute though.
