Recipes are a bit too simple and predictable for my taste. Art's DC restaurant is wonderful, but this book is nothing special.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Mango kiwi smoothie

    • hbakke on May 10, 2022

Not my favorite smoothie. Two tablespoons of honey per serving was too much sweetener especially combined with the sweet mango.

  • Cuban paella

    • cindy_xbrgsw on June 13, 2026

I have been making this recipe for at least 15 years and there is an error in the recipe. It tells you to brown the chicken and take it out although it never tells you to add the chicken back in to the Paella recipe so make sure you put the chicken backito he pan leaving enough time for it to cook through.

The chopped sweet pickle is really good in this.

  • Spring vegetable lasagne

    • JimCampbell on May 27, 2024

The Spring Vegetable Lasagna is good. Not great, but good. The lasagna is vegetable forward. The recipe generates a few more pots and pans than a regular lasagna, and the preparation and blanching of the vegetable take an extra step. Parmesan is called for in the directions for the bechamel sauce and is not listed under sauce section, so we missed it. Not that it mattered we were out. We subbed another cheese in it's place. Bechamel screams for nutmeg and we would add a grating of fresh nutmeg to the sauce next time. The prosciutto adds a touch of saltiness to the recipe. It is not listed in the ingredients in EYB, but it's in the book. The prosciutto makes the lasagna a bit more difficult to eat with just a fork. We needed a knife to cut it, and the nice looking square was soon scattered about the plate. Next time we will cut the prosciutto up into small pieces and scatter it around rather than layer it. Overall a 3 or 3.5 out of 5.
