Publishers Text
Miracles do happen, and can have enormous meaning for those who experience them. We can create small instances of magic when we begin to play in the kitchen. Wonder takes care of the rest. Once, Antony and I were having a bit of 'a day'. At the end of it all, we decided only a generous helping of carrot cake could console us. I need very little encouragment to bake, and was soon in the kitchen producing our feast. One power-out later, and after two hours of furious chanting in the hope that the cake would cook in the oven's remaining heat, it emerged baked to perfection. I iced it in the dark with a torch to illuminate my efforts, and ran, fast as I could, back to the comfort of the kuti on the hill. At the end of our feasting, we covered the cake so that I could take it back to the kitchen the next day to be shared with the rest of the staff. When morning came, I had little idea that it would bring with it an inexplicable mystery. On passing my shrine, I noticed something smudged on the Buddha statuette at its centre. Curious, I lifted the statuette to have a closer look. To my surprise, I discovered a tiny smear of icing on the smiling face.Other cookbooks by this author
