Curried mushrooms on poppadoms (pg 106) - this recipe does not use a premixed curry powder which makes it easy to adjust the recipe to your taste. However, the recipe has a serious flaw - keeping the mushrooms on the uneven surface of a poppadom provides entertainment. One needs to serve the mushrooms on the side - either diced so the poppadom can be broken and used as a chip or sliced to be spooned on the poppadom a bite or two at a time.

Publishers Text

The Great Sandwich Book is one of the first books published that celebrated America’s ethnic traditions and encouraged people to make sandwiches from scratch from a wide variety of ingredients, a sandwich for every taste, for every meal of the day, each one delicious and made with a minimum of time and effort. You’ll be surprised to find such a variety of ingredients and such a diversity of recipes in a cookbook published 38 years ago. Anita Borghese encourages her readers to get creative, yet there is an emphasis on sandwiches that are reasonably priced and have readily available ingredients. The chapter on breads provides recipes for baking mouth-watering lusty loaves of wholegrain breads, crusty rolls, long loaves, and more. Special attention is given to the preparation of mustards, relishes, and other garnishes. And with each sandwich recipe there are suggestions for serving other foods to round off the meal. The Great Sandwich Book will give you great ideas for sandwiches to please every member of the family and help you create different and attractive meals for entertaining friends.
