Very, very good. Potatoes, smoked fish, lentils, Indian spices, you can't go wrong. Subbed buckwheat for bulgar wheat and creamed coconut for double cream. Surprisingly, this was spicier/hotter than I expected, but in a good way. Watch salt, perhaps season just before serving. Didn't do the topping and not sure it would add anything to the finished dish. My dish looked nothing like the book photo, nor did the liquid look in any way like broth but it was so tasty it doesn't matter! Comfort food at its best. Halved, the recipe served 2.

Really nice. Served with bread for hungry husband. And used green lentil not Puy and was fine. Takes about half hour. And needs the coriander. Half of the 4-6 serving recipe fed two people.

This is one of the best new dishes I've tried for a while. It completely exceeded my expectations. I doubled the amount of potatoes, and added some chopped pak chois. And unlike many dishes from this book, my 6 year old loved it too and kept saying the fish made her feel warm inside. Similar to foodycat, I ended up as less brothy than in the picture, but it could be my extra potatoes and vegetables.

p.279 Extremely good - I've never had bulgar wheat cooked like this! I didn't have any cream but did want the bit of added richness, so I added 25g desiccated coconut to the potato and bulgar mixture. It ended up less brothy than in the picture, but with an excellent flavour. The squeeze of lime at the end is crucial.
