Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

    Never heard of American chops suey having never lived in New England or Midwest states. I asked my husband if he had something like it when he served in Navy and he said it vaguely seems familiar. I overcooked the noodles. Next time, I will skip precooking the noodles. I did not care for this dish initially, but by next day the flavors developed and it was good enough with side of salad. Maybe with intact noodles, this recipe would shine.

    Cut the cheese into small pieces. You can cook the macaroni fully and still be okay

    This was nice and cheesy but the sauce fell a bit flat. I also think that the cheese chunks were too big so some of them were a bit chilly when we got to eat them.
